Jack Vettriano was born in Fife, Scotland in 1951, and sadly passed away in Nice, France in March 2025. A self taught artist, his illustrious car started as a hobby in the 1970s, and so he began spending much of his spare time learning his craft by copying the Old Masters, Impressionist and many Scottish artists. It was in 1992 that we would see his first solo exhibition at the Edinburgh Gallery entitled 'Tales of Love and Other Stories". This was followed by many sell out shows throughout the years including 'Between Darkness and Dawn, 'Lovers and Other Strangers' and "Affairs of the Heart. September 2013 saw the opening of ‘Jack Vettriano: A Retrospective’ at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. It featured over 100 works and ran until Feb 2014. It attracted 123,300 visitors and broke the attendance records held by a Van Gogh exhibition in 1948.
His work continues to sell throughout the world.
